It’s a Takeover

It is very possible that you are unaware of an imminent and somewhat hostile takeover that will more that likely have a significant effect on what news you learn about and ultimately, the way you think. Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp has been in negotiations to purchase the Wall Street Journal, a bid that has sent shock waves through the business and news communities out of concern for protecting the editorial integrity and independence of the Journal, but the impact on the average person has been practically nil.

While it may appear that the average person does not share similar interests as the Wall Street Journal, or even read it on the regular, one must look beyond the traditional scope of business press and stock notes and see the larger issue of one of the most well read newspapers being taken over by a media conglomerate with a history of using its companies to further their own goal and objectives.

While negotiations are underway to put safeguards into place that are to protect the independence of the Journal, it really is only a matter of time before the Wall Street Journal becomes another “Voice of Rupert”, telling only the stories that News Corp want you to know, and moreso, only telling them in the way they want them to be told. It is in that risk that we all will find ourselves.

When one group controls the press and media, they ultimately control not just the flow of information but that actually information. The less voices telling the story means that less stories will be told, less truth will be uncovered and less sides will be revealed. That one story being told will be the story used to control the thoughts of the people, because most people have neither the wherewithal to seek out the truth or the awareness that they are indeed lambs being led to slaughter under a shepherd’s control.

Power is a very dangerous and seductive tool in the best and most enlightened of hands; unfortunately history has taught us, and the present continues to prove, that those in power tend to be the least enlightened.
