Boo Boo, Curtsy :(

50-bulletproof.jpg

As most of you may have already heard (I know I’m late), Lil’ Curtsy Boo Boo is suing some random internet company that creates this annoying “Shoot the Rapper” game that’s popular on free web sites whose revenue is generated from ad sales. He is suing for a million dollars (or a case of Vitamin Water since they are equal in value, depending, of course, on where you get your financial information) because, according to his lawyer, “he was a victim of gun violence. They also used his named and likeness without permission, implying that he endorsed the “game.” For all those reasons, he is personally offended.”

To which I say: Ha. Ha ha. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I don’t say any of this out of insensitivity to victims of gun violence, but out of insensitivty to Lil’ Curtsy Boo Boo. 50 is as personally offended and victimized by gun violence as Supahead is personally offended and victimized by dancing nekkid in rap videos and giving head. In other words, not at all.

When you craft a career exploiting and glorifying your history and actions and making a shitload of money, my sympathy for you hovers in the slim-to-nil range. Further, when you build your entire career on a personality that is as bullet ridden as an NRA gun range, is it any wonder that the press, fans, gamers, etc. will take pot shots at that persona? At one point or another, practically ever rapper on the planet has uttered the obscenely ignorant statement “Live by the gun, Die by the gun” as if it was the cure for AIDS, in an effort to prove of “street” and “thorough” they were and increase their sales.

When C-Murder was arrested on murder charges a few years ago, no one was really all that surprised, with him calling himself C-Murder and talking about murdering people all the time and all. If my memory serves me correct- he went so far as to try and change his name following the arrest and subsequent conviction. Something about wanting to distance him from a moniker that had such negative connotations. He came to the conclusion a bit late; that perhaps the image he was projecting to enhance his “professional career” was in fact, detrimental in the long run to his freedom.

Although it isn’t trendy these days, their truly is such a thing as personal responsibility, owning up for your actions and choices and the like. When you put negative words, images and energy out into the world, you have to expect some of it to be returned to you. Certain things are determined by your own actions. Imagine if I chose the stage (or blog) name SinShyne69…would anyone actually be expecting a gospel album or blog? Probably not, unless I was featured in Beenie Man’s Gospel Time singing “Shake Your Booty in the name of for Jesus.”

Back to Lil’ Curtsy Boo-Boo though. As much hate as I spew his way, even I can’t deny that his business moves are generally on point. This little law suit, however, seems more like an act ripped out of the playbook of a D-list celebrity desperate to keep their name in the press. Besides, I really don’t think any of the random twats who actually play those pop up games are truly using it for the purposes of target practice.

But whatever. Vitamin Water. Curtis: September After Kanye, 2007.

What up Greenie? Hows tricks girl?

Good post. 5-0 definitely doin this just to keep his name in the papers which really isn’t a bad move on his behalf. The man Fif is perceptive to the point where everything he does and says (even if its fuckin stoopid (c)Volcano Face Rell) has some point or motive behind it. Genius if you ask me. The fact that in this particular case its lodging a hypocritical court case makes it all the more amusing.

    fir = for(?)

  5. Fidel Cashflow Says:

I’m assuming the primary reason for the lawsuit involves the fact that a company was capatilizing off of Curtis’ image without him getting a cut. While I do agree with you about Curtis glorifying his violent past and being a hypocrite by claiming to be offended.

    ^^^for (or fir) you non-southerners

Fir is the country (or southern) translation for “FOR”

^Ah yes…the old “all publicity is good publicity” stunt….nice post greenie…

  9. Two-Times Says:

This ain’t got nothing to do with gunplay or victim of it…
This ad company wants to use 50’s image so they generate interest and money in there ads.
50’s lawyers went to them to stop, but the company started acting funny, so 50 sent the Jew-Unit on them.
50’s representatives “he was a victim of gun violence”, because that statement holds sometype of value in court.
It will get resolved, benefically to 50, trust me.

50’s in a position where he can’t let companies use his image/name without his consent or (without the company paying 50 money) to do so.

Greenie, you gotta take this for what’s it worth, not turn it into something else.

And for those that say this is publicity, think about it for a second, this type of publicty does not generate any interest in 50 as far as people being interested in his music and buying his record.
50’s got 5 singles currently out for ‘Curtis’, that is publicity, not this. That generates interest and potential buyers.

  12. Jamz Says:

For 50 to be such a joke, he sure can’t take one! If he’s gonna sue somebody for this, then he needs be sued for his look-a-like cartoon characters of Fat Joe & Jadakiss in his “Piggy Bank” video.

  13. Big Homie Says:

Good job going into detail on this topic. When I heard about it, I just laughed. It would be something good for him if you think as far as exposure, but he wants that money. He glorifies his shooting in his music for crying out loud. Vitamin Water…Traffix…Im stanky rich!!

its okay, lo k. i kinda felt dirty even bringing it up, because it is 50 and I hate him and giving him press, but…..

  16. The-XFacta Says:

I had to laugh at the 50 being a gun victim quote, since the nigga speaks of guns on 85.4321% of his tracks… But I won’t knock his hustle, I’ve seen those website things and they are using his likeness, therefore he should be compensated!!! Stay up!

What up LL, great post on your blog by the way, that got me all kinds of mad. I actually hit up the US part of our company in NY yesterday and asked our legal department if they were planning on donating time to those kids’ cause considering we are obliged to do that due to our Corporate Social Responsibility policy. Have’nt got an answer back yet. My company does’nt care about Southern black kids.

PR and marketing huh Greenie? Good for you. You like it? What kind of business is your production company in? Does it do films or commercials or what?
