Shut Up With All That South Hate

 trick.jpg

The South is still running this Rap shit. Yeah dammit. I said it.

While every kid in New York who can rhyme a few words (and quite a few who cant) have spent the past four or five years boasting that they will “bring NY back”. Rappers in every other region have been busy grippin’ up and running, throwing napkins, skipping their bipolar meds, getting banned from countries or dipping their clothing into fruity pebbles and getting lazy. We may talk slow, but the South is far from lazy which is why we are currently running the rap game and nursing Hip Hop back to health one sizzurp sip at a time.

Politics & Community: Yes, Wu Tang is for the kids. Well guess what? Trick luvs da kids too and shows it by hosting annual back to school jams and school supply giveaways, Halloween jams, Christmas giveaways – none of which include the distributin of illegal substances. He knows the children are our future. Yeah, Kanye went on National TV and said “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” but David Banner stays organizing concerts and fundraisers to rebuild the communities devastated by Katrina and had the time to call out Al Sharpton and co. Chamillionaire too flexed his anti-establishment muscle and released not one, but two songs and videos effectively ripping the establishment a new one. Finally with the formation of the “Make It Rain Scholarship Fund”, Southern rappers have personally given many a hard working girl a chance for higher education.

Artistry: From Goodie Mob, Outkast and the rest of the Dungeon Family to Nappy Roots, Arrested Development and Timbaland, the South is full of artists that push musical boundaries. While the merit of this push is arguably a matter taste, the southern rap sounds cape is more musically diverse than another region. And fashion wise—you know Lonnie stole the crochet idea from Andrea.

Entrepreneurial Spirit: While rappers from other regions spent their days and nights stalking producers and carrying wed to get put on, southern cats did it themselves, selling hundreds of thousands of records from the trunks of their cars and through old fashioned mom & pop spots before the mainstream recording industry even noticed.  Master P and Cash Money were able to use their significant indie sales to negotiate ground breaking deals that not only made them multimillionaires, but allowed them to retain nearly complete control over their music, including masters and creative direction.  Just to put it in perspective: it took Jay damn near a decade and a career change to get his back.

Pimp C:  The C in Pimp C stands for Chuck Norris is afraid of me. Jesus wants Pimp C to be his homeboy. Vishnu wears a WWCD iced out grill. Mike Vick didn’t kill nann dog, Pimp C drove through Virginia to decide whether or not, it was in fact good enough to be the South and the sheer goddamnitude of his presence was too much for the dogs. Their souls, recognizing the divinity of Pimp C, spontaneously erupted from their bodies and went to Dog Heaven.

So stop hating the South. Pimp C doesn’t like that. And look at Trick’s face. Neither does he.

  22. Big Homie Says:

Although not into the south music as much, I am not going to hate and disagree. Hip Hop has changed and yes the South is running it right now, no ifs and buts about it. They truely do work hard and stay busy unlike most of the artist in other regions, which is why they where they at now. Im more into the older cats from the south like Scarface, Outkast, UGK, Goodie Mob, and new cats like Chamillionaire, Luda..etc. Just cant stand the whole Walk it Out, Snap Ya Fingers, Wipe Me Down movement that is currently get madd play. Its catchy which is why they are in full rotation on the radios and TV. Not knockin them, but just personally not into all that.

I dont look at it as a region thing. I got madd love for the south and they are doing their thing. Much props to them and to you Greenie on another fine post.

And fashion wise—you know Lonnie stole the crochet idea from Andrea

Without those two…there would be no south music

  24. green eyes Says:

oh SHYT. how on earth did i forget Luke? without luke- these m’fuckers could not be as nasty as the wanna be. for real.. luke is a def rap don. shame on me for omitting him. JD gets inclusion in the artistry. i feel less bad about not calling him out by name though.

^ *frowns & gags* yeah about that… thats nasty. but this isnt about the food some ppl eat down here. its about the music.

^ *frowns & gags* yeah about that… thats nasty. but this isnt about the food some ppl eat down here. its about the music.

^^I beg to differ… the food has a direct influence on the music… take the song “Booty Meat” by Soulja Boy or “Laffy Taffy” by D4L for example…

  33. lo k Says:

I gotta admit tho, I have been interested in trying a deep fried snickers bar (no Do the Knowledge) since I first heard about it even tho I’m sure I’m going to have a coronary immediately following…

  34. green eyes Says:

i hear before you can buy one, you sign a waiver releasing them of any responsibility for your death.

  35. the audience Says:

We heard that the “C” in Pimp C stands for “Compass”…..we also heard that the North Star, which has guided mankind throughout history, is actually the ever burning twinkle in his father’s eye, from whence Pimp C was concieved….

Southerners are doing their thing…..We love some southern artists…..however, as far as winners and losers, there is no such animal in hip hop….there are only the creators (New York), and those that follow (Everybody Else)…..the way hip hop was intended to be was universal, as per the pioneers wishes….they did not want it to be a “New York Thing”- they wanted it worldwide…..the South is doing what was meant for them and what the Midwest in next in line for….will you be mad (we know you won’t) when the Midwest claims the throne and starts saying they run shit- Led by the Almighty:
Pimp “I just decided Texas is actually in the Mid West” C?…

We stay out of this regional shit, bacause that’s what it is- bullshit…We can see why southerners get mad when others downplay their significance in hip hop…..We don’t agree with that….If anything, we feel that southerners, and for that matter, any region other than the “birthplace” are more open minded, because a lot of them had to listen to East Coast hip hop from lack of regional artists….whereas us East Coasters have been spoon-fed this thing from Day 1 and have formed a bias, which we cannot be faulted for…..

All this to say…..we hope the South continues to prosper….which they will, because they have the work ethic and the entrepreneurial/business sense to do so…you don’t hear about southern artists being held back by their labels, because they OWN them….

The one thing other regions can’t hate on the south for is their hustle. A couple of artist from the south came into the game with more records sold than established artist.
