Look Deeper

Instead of just along Hip Hop and Rap to wallow in decreased market share and sales figures, the US Government has take it upon itself to kick it when its down. The government has decided that there is just far too much misogyny in Hip Hop and congressional hearings are required to address what should be done about it.

Whether spurned by Crackass Timberlake physically assaulting Janet Jackson and ripping her clothing off at the Super Bowl or Don Imus uttering 3 words, the storm clouds have been building, and Hip Hop (read Black men) remain Amerikkka’s favorite whipping boy.

It’s frighteningly obvious that the motivation behind this witch-hunt query isn’t about protecting and enhancing the welfare of women, but for very significant political and financial reasons.

A move such as this will shore up the conservative base in this country in advance of the next presidential election at the same time it further emasculates, financially wounds and demonizes Black men. Mix these Hip Hop Hearings with the charges against Michael Vick and allegations around Barry Bonds and arrive at a combination that both silences and demonizes a significant population as well as the morale of their supporters. Then toss is in a hugely popular Black male presidential candidate calling for change and watch the Bible belt run like sheep to the Shepard of the Republican party.

Perhaps I am wrong, maybe too paranoid for my own good. Perhaps the US government is indeed concerned about the state of women, in the media or otherwise. I just wonder cant help but wonder.

Wonder where they were when Tawny Kitaen was writhing on top of a car in Whitesnake’s video.

Wonder where they are each month when Playboy is published, or when E! airs new episodes of the Playboy pornotional tool The Girls Next Door.

Wonder where they were when women and children were dying and starving and otherwise being treated as less than human in the aftermath of Katrina.

Wonder where they were when the gap between women’s wages and men’s continued to grow, leaving women making only 75 cents to every dollar a man makes.

Wonder where they were when over 2 million more women than men went without healthcare in this country, when a Black woman’s life expectancy was 74.9 years to a white woman’s 80 years.

Its not about women, Black or otherwise. Its about power. And far too much is up for grabs at the moment.

    ^^^

God’s Son across the white house…

  6. the audience Says:

The government is concerned only with the government…..this is a distraction, because we’re easily distracted from important topics (Jena 6)….when shit like this happens, it affects ALL music, not just hip hop, and truth be told, this shit needs to be cleaned up all across the board….

it’s funny to think that we can come after Kramer and Imus and there not be any repercussions…..we can’t fall back on “it wasn’t a problem when such and such did it” because you’re right. It wasn’t and it still won’t be a problem (FOR THEM)…we need to restore our dignity within ourselves

What you won’t, can’t, or refuse to do- the government will do for you….

  7. green eyes Says:

^ perhaps i’m desensitized to it…and that very well may be the case, but has it gotten worse? TipDrill and Uncut peaked, what, 2-3 years ago? i haven’t observed it getting worse, staying the same, yes, but not worse. and thats just referring to the images, lyrical content– shit- Luke, Too Short, Akinyele, Doggystyle were much worse than what is said today.

Im not saying it doesnt need to be addressed, but like thism and right now?

  8. the audience Says:

    hasn’t gotten better…… stayed the same…….. gotten worse…..all equal

It’s either PROgression (advance) or REgression (retreat)….

We can’t concern ourselves with individuals and entities that aren’t and haven’t been concerned with our welfare….EVER! The more we do that, the more we fall into the trap of dependencyand reliance on THEM to help us clean up OUR situations

  9. green eyes Says:

so what solution do you propose?

  10. the audience Says:

I suggest we hold ourselves to a higher moral standard than we presently do. We can do better. To say we should be able to do it because they do/did it sounds crazy. We as a people have lowered our standards to those in power. The power of the dollar continues to devalue and corrupt our art and images.

I suggest we support those who are worthy of our support. When one of ours fucks up, we bear the brunt of defending them, not because they’re innocent, but because they’re “one of us”….that’s one of our refining qualities, but also one of our weaknesses….so when it’s found out that said person is guilty, we as a whole look foolish and our opinions are moot when real issues are at hand…..

We need to take care of our own…..

These are just my opinions….I am by no ways an expert or the preaching type. I have too many flaws myself and I tend to rant, sometimes not making sense.

The things I stated above I myself need to live by, which is to say, I (we) have to work inside/out (self respect/pride/dignity) before we allow them to work outside/in (anti-us, as in you and me)

  11. the audience Says:

Once again, sorry for the long post

  12. green eyes Says:

no its okay, i was about to apologize for putting you on the spot.

  13. the audience Says:

No problem, as long as it made some sense.

  14. green eyes Says:

    i overstand

  15. lo k Says:

    *sigh*

all of this nonsense coming from white men who are mostly gay bigots who go to crazy retreats where they perform pagan rituals and bad touch little boys… shit is crazy…

    where’s Billz?

^^this right here is the main reason that black amerikkkas voice’s & opinions are deemed more & more as lacking validity by masses. (by the masses: I mean everyone else “except” other black americans) I saw this type of shit coming when that jizz jar skrippa in NC was “surprisingly” determined to be a ho-bag lier.

Why else do you think that the media & gov’t are so comfortable with blatant bashing of anything deemed as black culture. (see fox news)

lmao @ designer vagina finder! u crazy Mac

  18. MadeInMilwaukee....Since1979 Says:

You mean to tell me that movies get a free pass, but hip hop goes in to the crosshairs? I know they held congressional meetings on that a few years ago, but they handled them with kid gloves. Lets nor allow ourselves to be distracted by this bs. Our lack of unity has been used against us long enough. We have to a uniformed voice on issues like this.

  19. MadeInMilwaukee....Since1979 Says:

We also need to stop holding sports figures, rappers, singers, polititions etc accountable for our moral values. Mothers and fathers should be setting these standards. If Jay-Z has a greater pull over your child then you do, then you dropped the ball at some point. Lets stop letting our folk raise our children.

  20. MadeInMilwaukee....Since1979 Says:

That’s an ill pic too Greenie!

  21. EnglandRepresent Says:

Greeeeeeeeeeeeeenie, well said. I heard about this and thought shiiiiit something is severely fecked in the US if they’re concentrating on the treatment of females in hip-hop. Fuck, concentrate on the inherent racism in the US judicial system, concentrate on your flimsy fuckin immigration policy, concentrate on the disparities between the rich and the poor, concentrate on your foreign policy, concentrate on gettin a decent President into power.

    U mad?

I would be if I was American
