A few musing about power. Nothing concrete, just a few thoughts that you may or may not share.

Power. We all think we want it and in varying degrees we all like to think we have it. We assume that we can attain it through a certain lexicon, through a fly ass whip. To capture this elusive mistress, we don garment and frequent locations, where we think we can catch it.

To most of this generation, power references a much more materialistic mind set that it did to generations past. It’s about attaining, collecting, hording wealth and things. Collecting greenbacks, hos (of both the male and female variety) who lay right on their backs so you can lie right on their fronts. Back in the day, it would seems that power held a very different meaning. It dealt more with knowledge of self-awareness of environment and was often coupled with a willingness to abandon creature comforts to attain that level of power, for within that power lay the knowledge that material possessions only made your powerless by giving you more to lose.

Here in the US, we have become so enamored by the notion of power, by possession that we seem to constantly exist on the edge, teetering rather precariously on the verge of losing, because there always seems to be another power grade above us.

Either signing your check, or the asshole cop sauntering over to the car (hey asshole- someone’s getting shot – stop sweating my speed) or that slow motherfucker at the courthouse having a power trip and in no rush to help you pay your ticket, we have daily reminders of little power we actually have and how elusive it really is.

So I ask, what is power? How is it defined to you, to us? Is it financial? Spiritual? The ability to speak freely and have people not just listen, but act? Is power the ability to start a war or is power the ability to end one? To pull a trigger or hire a shooter? To connect and love or resist and embrace solitude?

Most power is an illusion. The planet is essentially a slave plantation colony given the ratio of compensation people get in comparison to their corporate and government masters. Freedom is something defined for us, not lived by us.

    >what is power?

Power IMO is the ability to control your surroundings by any means possible (no Dubya)..but in a spiritual sense, its the ability to control stress, pain and love in a mental form without succumbing to depression, fatigue and ailments that may tarnish your ablity to achieve happiness and daily enjoyment in life.

Niggaz in jail that have been given the book, gavel, and solitaire confinement but still manage to live breath and enjoy the essentials in life -thats power (c) Nelson mandela

Women (and men, but mostly women) that have been left alone to the bear the responsablities of a child without support, but yet manage to say “”fuk that nigga (or bitch)” and still get a degree or lay the foundation for thier child to achieve the benefits of life – thats power

A young nigga that lived a crazy life, been shot at and statistically was supose to die by the age of maturity, but yet still manages to pick the pieces of his life up and better himself – thats power

That y I got the power (no snap)

^^ That is power. Power is when you have people react to what you do and say. Money has nothing to do with power. I tell you one thing though, Id rather be rich then have power right about now. But then again, if I had power Id tell all my bills to go away and they will do it..lol.
