Thug Love

Who says Hip Hop doesn’t have heart? Through the years, I have always been amused at how hip hop has shown its softer side, often through some fantastically dreadful odes of rap love.  In no particular order, here are a few of my favorite bad hip hop love songs (or at least the ones I thought up quickly this morning):  

 

Tupac & Richie Rich: Ratha Be Ya NiggaI love this song. Pac & Double-R-Richie-baby get their sweet talk on heavy. Not only is it all about cheating, but they continually reinforce the fact that we need a thug in our life. I say, indeed we do.  Mackin aint easy, but these brothas do it:

Back in the day, me and this dude had a lovely puppy thug love thing going on. Whenever I heard this song, it always made me think of him. One day he said it made him think of me. Thus it became our song. Dysfunctional, I know.  Much like X and his ‘lil hood rat bitch from 26th, fell apart in the end, so did we.  Nonetheless- in very informal and unscientific straw polls, this song still remains and Hip Hop dysfunctional love song favorite.  

Webbie & Bun B: Gimme That

This song makes me smile as only a very guilty pleasure can. I like an honest man, and Webbie doesn’t pull any punches:

Shyne- Bonnie & Shyne

I’ll wait til the second night to fuck ya 

Them NY cats are patient dudes. That’s respect ladies. Plus he knows we rock MAC lip gloss, instead if throwing in some cheap as “Cover Girl” ish.  Attention to details is always a good look.  

Apache- Gangsta Bitch

LL might need love from an around the way girl, but, well… that’s corny. Apache knows what’s really needed in the real world and doesn’t spit silly game:
