Courting is Dead

 

That makes me sad.

Before, anyone gets their knickers in bunch. This isn’t meant to be man hating or ho pointing. More a continued observation, if you will, of the decline in intersexual relations

Nor is this about men coming out of pocket and paying for the punany. I’m not going to waste time and let this breakdown into a debate about finances and whatnot, but I just want to say that if we (woman) are paying for a fresh pedicure and manicure and going through the pain of a fresh waxing for you, maybe even copping some special new panties if you’re extra special, the least you can do is pick up the dinner bill. Yeah it’s shallow and perhaps antiquated, but it speaks to an ancient (think cave people) and deeply ingrained need of ours to feel like you can be a provider.  Marinate on that if you must. (and one more thing, I, and I’m sure all my sistren, have come out of pocket before when we know its tight for you, but still, make the effort to beat me to the bill. So there!)

What this is about is the getting to know you period, where we try to be charming and thoughtful because we are kind of into you period. The time in relkationships that has pretty mch gone the way of Cutrsy Boo Boo’s career. The one that is supposed to be awkward. When both act kinda coy. You know, right before we learn about all the shit that irritates us about me another.

Nowadays we get charming text messages like “Mama I miss that ass” or “I wanna fuck” (ahhh romance), a slap on the ass, watching HBO at the crib. Fellas, I imagine you get something along the lines of “buy me something” “pay for the baby sitter” or some other less than desirable offer that makes the overall interaction rather unpleasant.

Yet, because we are in essence animals put here to mate and breed, and because we were blessed? cursed? with the ability to choose and reason, we continue the cycle of seeking out companionship of the naughty naked kind. And because we often don’t use reasoning or logic, we choose poorly, thus allowing for the continual cycle of bullshit and lackadaisical sex where both parties think of someone else to get off.

Perhaps its laziness that has taken courting, and thus the fun out of the mating ritual. Perhaps its slim pickings: why bother putting in effort when it’s a subpar prize? Ayo- maybe its technology (9.11.07 E aka The Real Noriega, U mad?)  Whatever the reason, courting is dead.  And it makes me sad.
